Basetsana Kumalo is an entrepreneur & philanthropist. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of South Africa, majored in Politics and Communications. A Diploma in Executive Education on Global Leadership from Harvard University. She participated in the ‘Leadership and Decision Making in the 21st Century’ program at Yale University. A Diploma in Marketing from Damelin.
A Director of Uzalile Investments: a woman-owned and listed coal mining company. A Director of Travel with Flair: A Travel Management Company. She holds a Non-Executive Directorship at Tawana Resources, a diamond mining company.
She is the Executive Chairperson of Tswelopele Productions, a television production company, which produces Top Billing, Pasella, amongst other television shows. Also, a co-founder and CEO of Connect TV, which produces reality shows such as Our Perfect Wedding, Diski Divas, Date my Family, Utatakho, Please Step In.
Basetsana sits on various Boards, namely: Lovelife which is South Africa’s largest national HIV prevention organisation for young people: Director & Vice Chairman of the organisation,The Nelson Mandela Institute for Education and Rural Development: Director, A Board member of JAM which is an NGO that feeds 100,000 pre-school aged children in informal settlements at day care centres. She was Miss Soweto 1990 and Miss Black South Africa 1990. She is a former Miss South Africa 1994 and a first-runner up in the Miss World Pageant.
She is the former President of the Business Women’s Association of South Africa and Author of Bassie: My Journey of Hope.
